Martin Astley

CISO, 24/7 Home Rescue

As Chief Information Security Officer at 24|7 Home Rescue, I lead from the front in protecting organisations from ever-evolving cyber threats – but my mission goes far deeper than just firewalls and frameworks.

In an industry obsessed with uptime, I talk openly about the downtime no one wants to discuss – burnout, stress, and the mental toll of defending digital frontlines. With over a decade in IT and security, I’ve lived through the all-nighters, the adrenaline spikes, and the isolation that creeps in when you’re always “on”. I now use my platform to humanise cybersecurity leadership and advocate for a healthier, more sustainable approach to life in tech.

My leadership philosophy blends technical precision with psychological safety – building security teams where people feel supported, not just accountable. I believe mental resilience is just as critical as any SIEM or SOC strategy.

I was honoured to be nominated for European CISO of the Year, a nod to both my team’s hard work and my commitment to transforming how we think about leadership in cyber. I’m proud to mentor rising talent, speak candidly about wellbeing, and spark real conversations about what it actually means to “do the job”.

When I’m not navigating risk registers or regulatory frameworks, I’m a dad, a partner, a car enthusiast, and an unapologetic mental health advocate. I’ve learned that you can’t patch a human being the same way you patch a system – and it’s time we stopped trying.
